CompuApps DriveWizard FAQ's
When I boot with Windows 95 through parallel
port, my system freezes while booting.
This will occur for DriveMate device connected
through parallel port, under the following situations:
-
This problem may be due to PS/2
type mouse. Disable Mouse type from the BIOS and try booting
through an external serial mouse. You can boot into Command prompt
of Windows 95 to recover data from the mirror disk.
-
If this happens when you are
attempting a Fast Boot, then the parallel port design on the
system you are using is not 100% IBM AT compatible. Try using
CTL-Z only to boot.
-
The external hard disk is not
spinning up to speed because of a long reset time. Try doing a
soft reset of your system by pressing CTL-ALT-DEL keys and see if
the problem goes away.
-
One of the drivers installed in
your Windows 95 is conflicting with the parallel port boot
process. Press F8 when the message "Starting Windows 95…." Comes
up and choose Safe Mode Command prompt and check if you get the
C:> command prompt. If you do, then you have to restore the mirror
disk to get back the original data or from the command prompt
retrieve your files from the external disk.
-
Go to the CMOS settings in your
computer and set the Parallel port type to ECP/EPP if it is
available. Then try re-booting the computer. If it still fails
after displaying the Windows 95 Logo, try and boot into Safe Mode.
If this works then you have a 32-bit driver that conflicts with
the boot process from the parallel port.
-
If the message "Missing
Operating System" or "Invalid System Disk…" appears, go to your
CMOS settings, choose Auto Detect Hard disk and choose LBA mode of
access and try again.
When I try to create an extra partition in my
external hard disk I get an error, "unable to find link in the
partition table".
This will occur under the following situations:
- If already there are 4 primary partitions
created using system commander.
- If a primary partition is created after
extended partition or an Extended partition is created without any
logical drives. Even using FDISK you cannot partition the extra
space.
When I try to restore I get the option, "LBA
mode or Non-LBA mode".
If your hard disk capacity is
around 540 Mega Bytes, then the disk can be accessed in two ways:
LBA mode and Non-LBA mode. Since it is not possible to determine
which mode of partitioning existed on the internal disk, try LBA
mode restore first and see if the system boots through the internal
disk. If this fails, try Non-LBA mode restore. This will make the
system to boot through the internal disk.
When I use any removable drive (2.2 GB), my
system detects as 540 MB drive?
This problem is due to LBA mode.
Some BIOS will not detect removable drives grater than 540MB. You
have to go to BIOS and change the detection mode as USER, and MODE
as LBA mode and reboot the system.
I have my source hard disk as Windows 2000/XP
in FAT16 file system, I upgraded to my new hard disk with higher
capacity with FAT32 File system. When I booted my new hard disk it
displays as "Could not find NTLDR"?
After you have upgraded to your
new hard disk, replace your internal hard disk. Using Windows 2000
Rescue Disk and your Windows 2000 installation CD-ROM disk choose
Repair option and then follow the instructions. Now after re-booting
your system will work fine.
While upgrading I have selected not to create
extra partitions. How do I create extra partitions after
DriveUpgrade?
You can use any one of the Disk partitioning
utilities to create extra partitions in your new hard disk. You can
use some utilities like Microsoft's FDISK (in Win98)& DISK
MANAGEMENT (in Win2000), CompuApps SWISSKNIFE. Etc.,
After upgrading FAT16 file system to FAT32 file
system my computer does not boot.
Upgrading to FAT32 from FAT16 will
work for OS systems like Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows 95B
(OSR2) or later, Other Microsoft OS like MS-DOS, Windows 95 (first
release and service pack 1), Windows NT 3.51, Windows NT 4.0 will
not support FAT32 file systems. If you have upgraded to your new
hard disk with any one of the OS which does not support FAT32 file
systems, your new hard disk will not work
How do I backup my critical data from hard
drive, without Mirroring or upgrading?
Install your DriveWizard in your
computer and reboot your computer. See CUSTOM DRIVE SELECTION in
section 4.7 DriveSync - Select Custom Drive.
How do I expand my NTFS partition when
upgrading?
DriveWizard does not support for
expanding NTFS/HPFS partitions while upgrading, ie., your
destination hard drive partition will be of the same size of your
source hard drive. (Note: Next version of our software is expected
with this support)
I have partitions in my hard drive but
DriveWizard displays a message "No valid partitions found"?
Current version of DriveWizard
does not work with Windows 2000 or Windows XP dynamic disks. It will
display a message box "No valid partitions found". You can convert
the dynamic disks into basic disk using Windows Disk Manager and you
can upgrade or mirror using driveWizard.
